What We Believe
The statement below expresses our core beliefs and values, which guide our actions and decisions as we strive for individual and social holiness.
God
Our belief is rooted in the profound reality of one God, the Creator and sustainer of all that exists in the universe. God embodies infinite love, perfect judgment, and unchanging mercy. We affirm that God exists eternally in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Each plays a unique and vital role in the divine plan. The Father is the creator and sustainer of all things, the Son is the savior and redeemer of humanity, and the Holy Spirit is the sanctifier and comforter of believers. Together, these three persons form the Holy Trinity, the very foundation of Christian doctrine that inspires and guides us.
Scripture
We embrace the divine inspiration, truthfulness, and authority of the Old and New Testaments. These sacred texts illuminate our path, offering guidance and hope as the infallible rule of faith and practice. Through the Holy Spirit, God's Word is preserved, speaking to our hearts and revealing the depth of His love and grace.
Humanity
As human beings, we are wonderfully created in God's image. Yet, through the disobedience of our first parents, this image was marred, leading to a rupture in our fellowship with God. The human heart, swayed towards evil, finds it impossible to choose good without divine intervention. Nonetheless, we can take heart, for God's enabling grace is actively at work, inviting us to embrace the transformative power of His restorative love and saving grace through Jesus Christ. This redeeming Love is a remarkable gift, and we have the freedom to choose whether to embrace it or not.
Jesus Christ
We hold deep in our hearts that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, who came to earth in human form, born of the Virgin Mary. He selflessly laid down his life on the cross, paying the ultimate price for the sins of all humanity and opening a path to redemption and salvation. After his death, he gloriously rose from the grave and ascended to heaven, where he now sits at the right hand of God the Father, continually interceding on our behalf.
Holy Spirit
We embrace the Holy Spirit as the divine and eternal presence of God in our world, always active and dynamically working in the lives of humanity. At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit was fully bestowed upon the church, empowering believers to boldly live out their faith and share the profound message of the gospel. Through the Holy Spirit, Christ dwells within His church, guiding and inspiring its members toward spiritual growth and selfless service to others. By the transformative power of the Holy Spirit, the gospel is proclaimed, changing hearts and minds and revealing the beauty of God's kingdom in our world.
Declared Righteous before God (Justification)
Embracing faith in Christ is a life-changing experience where God declares a person righteous in His sight. This extraordinary gift is not rooted in personal merits or actions but is revealed through faith in Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice, powerfully offering forgiveness of sins and fostering a relationship with God. This profound experience is often referred to as being “born again, (John 3:3-5).”
Entire Sanctification
God calls all believers to embrace the profound experience of entire sanctification through a moment of full surrender and faith, following their new birth in Christ. In this transformative journey, sanctifying grace empowers the Holy Spirit to free them from rebellion against God, enabling them to love both God and others with their whole hearts. While this grace does not grant believers perfection or immunity to sin, it beautifully invites them to live each day in faith, trusting in the forgiveness and cleansing offered through Jesus Christ.
Assurance of Believers
Believers are inspired and affirmed in their identity as children of God by the powerful witness of God's Spirit within them, through their unwavering faith in His promises, and by the abundant fruit of the Spirit that shines in their lives, (Romans 8:16).
Christians in Society
As Christians, we are called to live our lives as powerful testimonies of the grace we receive through Jesus Christ. We are also commanded by Him to boldly share the gospel with everyone we meet. Furthermore, we must stand firm in proclaiming God's unwavering commitment to righteousness and justice in every facet of human society, including our relationships and societal structures.
The Church
The church represents the beautiful unity of a local gathering, where believers come together in worship, while also embracing the expansive, worldwide community of faith that connects us all.
Baptism and the Lord’s Supper (Eucharist)
As Methodists, we passionately celebrate the sacred sacraments that have been integral to the church since its inception. Baptism and the Lord’s Supper (Eucharist) are not just rituals; they are powerful expressions of our faith that bind us together as a community. By embracing these sacred practices, we nurture our spiritual growth and reinforce our connection to God and one another, highlighting the profound significance they hold in our lives.
